Dear Reader,

Hello and welcome to the newly redesigned website of the Disability Ministries Task Force of the Susquehanna Conference! We’re so glad you’ve found us.

Our website has been updated with accessibility in mind, making it easier for everyone to find resources, stay connected, and learn more about the vital work of disability ministries in our Conference and beyond. Whether you’re a lifelong advocate or newly exploring this calling, we hope you’ll find this space to be both welcoming and informative.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

CAPTIONING AT ANNUAL CONFERENCEIn 2024, the Disability Ministries Task Force submitted a resolution calling for live captioning at Annual Conference gatherings. We are pleased to share that the resolution was approved, and as a result, the 2025 Session of the Annual Conference will feature captions displayed on the large screens in the plenary hall.

This is an important step toward creating a more inclusive and accessible environment for all members of the Susquehanna Conference, especially those who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have auditory processing challenges.

But we need your help!If you find the captions helpful—whether you rely on them or simply appreciate their presence—please be sure to mention it in your post-conference evaluation form. Positive feedback is essential to ensuring that this practice continues in future years. Even if you don’t personally use captioning, you can still affirm its value for others by expressing your support.

Let’s continue to lift one another up and build a church where everyone can fully participate.

OTHER IMPORTANT NEWS...

Be sure to subscribe to receive updates straight to your inbox—so you never miss a post! Our plan is to share monthly updates featuring news, resources, stories, and opportunities for engagement around disability ministries.

This week, we are uploading this important document:

2025 Resolution Document – This file includes both of the resolutions we have submitted to the Annual Conference for 2025. The first calls for the continued recognition of Disability Awareness Sunday on the second Sunday in October. The second encourages our Conference to take intentional steps toward greater accessibility—such as supporting clergy and ordinands who request reasonable accommodations and ensuring that our Conference’s own website becomes accessible to all.

Thank you for visiting. We’re excited about what God is doing through disability ministries in the Susquehanna Conference—and we look forward to sharing the journey with you.

Grace and peace,The Disability Ministries Task ForceSusquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church
